Psalm 70

Please, God, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
May those who try to kill me be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace.
Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, "Aha! We've got him now!"
But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, "God is great!"
But as for me, I am poor and needy;
please hurry to my aid, O God.
You are my helper and my savior;
O Lord, do not delay.

A psalm of David

Notes: Although this psalm was born out of David's own experience of trouble it finds its ultimate fulfillment in the mouth of the messiah, the greater David - Jesus. He was surrounded by enemies who hated him without a cause as he pursued the Father's will on behalf of the people he had come to save. His cries for help were heard and God's rescued him, and with him, all who call on his name. Because his prayer was answered we have the hope of a bright tomorrow free from the many troubles of this life.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Time for a New Psalm

Well, well... in my absence war has broken out! Alas, I am not sure what the debate that is going on in the comment section has to do with the psalms I have been posting but this kind of thing does happen. Everyone is so sure of their own position and ready to educate and pass judgment on everyone else... all I know is that there are many mysteries that we will never understand this side of glory, and, yet, in the end the judge of all the earth will do right (see Genesis 18:25). God's ways are not our ways nor his thoughts our thoughts therefore it is best for us to worry about what we can do and change and leave ultimate issues to the only one who knows. Like the stone in the picture balance is so difficult to achieve in all areas of life, and that is particularly true when it comes to theology! That being the case, it is time for another psalm... stay tuned...
