Canadian Carey Conference 2009

The Canadian Carey Family Conference 2009 Edition has come and gone but once again it was a great blessing to those in attendance. This year the conference was organized by Trinity Baptist Church in Burlington and they did a tremendous job bringing everything together. In particular Harry Droogendyk is to be commended for being there and providing leadership from beginning to end.

The guest preacher this year was Thabiti Anyabwile, the pastor of First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman. He did a wonderful job expounding a number of important questions that were asked of Jesus and recorded in Matthew's gospel. His preaching was a real blessing to me personally and I especially appreciated the humble, warm and compelling way he opened up the Scriptures and focused our attention on Jesus.

The Saturday evening and morning sessions were taken by a number of pastors from southern Ontario and they tackled themes surrounding the application of the gospel to various areas of family life. These themes included what is man, what is the gospel, marriage, parenting, singleness, and ministering to broken families. I always enjoy the ministry of my brothers and it is always encouraging to see how God has raised up those who love his word and are determined to faithfully proclaim his gospel. There is much work to be done in Ontario but we are not alone, God has his people and he is building his church.

My wife and I have been involved with the Carey for years now and over the years God has used it in our family in many different ways. This year was no exception.
