The Better Bibles Blog has a new web address and I have updated my link accordingly. But I wanted to take this opportunity to commend the Better Bibles Blog to my readers. Bible translation is an important subject because it is vital to have a Bible that communicates the meaning of the original text as accurately and clearly as possible in current English (or any other language). Unfortunately however, this is not as straight forward a task as it should be. Beyond the obvious and legitimate scholarly debates about the best way to translate the biblical text are a host of other issues like dogmatically held but questionable beliefs regarding Bible versions, and publishing companies with a financial stake in what version of the Bible people are reading, to name but two. In this kind of environment Christians need material that they can understand which will help them base their purchasing and reading decisions on something more substantial than the snippet endorsements of star scholars and religious leaders. More than the mere approval or disapproval of "Dr. or Rev. So-in-So" Christians require readable, non-biased information so they can make informed "Bible" decisions. In this regard the Better Bibles Blog makes for great reading and I commend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about this subject.
