Crystal Methamphetamine

This morning on the CTV News 31 year old Chris Hanson was on the television telling anyone who would listen about the huge problem that exists in Canada with crystal methamphetamine. A self-professed career criminal, he has decided to stop being a drug 'chemist' and instead expose the corruption of the very lucrative drug world. Hanson claims that in a 12 month period it is possible for him to take in ten million dollars and that Canada is a haven for this kind of activity because of huge borders, lax laws and people from all over the world that congregate particularly on the west coast. He also claims that while the police monitor drug traffic they are slow to make arrests because of inefficiencies in the way police departments are organized.

But the real story is the fact that there is such a demand for this chemical escape from reality. There would be no profits or labs or pushers if there were not users. It is sad to consider how many human beings are so disillusioned with life, so aimless and hopeless that they need this kind of 'recreation'. This is not what we were made for. There is a better way. We were made for God and for the joy and pleasure that is found in him. These pleasures surpass anything that can be experienced in this world. But because people do not know God through Jesus Christ, they do not know and cannot even imagine what it is like to be taken up with him. So they sell themselves short in all sorts of ways that never deliver what they promise. They seek that elusive high that can never satisfy them and always leaves them hungering for more.

The words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30 are still true today: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
