Charles Colson never ceases to amaze me with timely comments on events swirling around us. No wonder he worked for the President of the United States! In today's commentary he mentions the sad situation of children conceived through donor insemination who are now in their teens and wondering who their fathers are. In my mind what is most telling is that the lesbian couples and single women who chose to have children free from the confines of traditional marriage never considered the impact on the children who were brought into the world by this means, nor were they prepared for their anger and frustration once they figure out what is going on. Colson even mentions an alternative lifestyles company who markets T-shirts bearing the slogan "My Dad's Name is Donor."
All this is another reminder that there are serious far-reaching consequences when human beings rebel against the will of God. When we think we are smarter than he is and know better than he does what will work and make us happy. For all the problems that plague traditional marriage because of the flawed character of the human beings who marry one another, we are only beginning to see the spiritual, social and psychological trauma that will characterize the so-called enlightened alternatives. But what is supremely heart-breaking is that it is the children, who are caught up in this selfish madness through no fault of their own, who will bear the brunt of it. Jesus was not misleading men and women when he said that compared to the alternatives "his yoke is easy and his burden is light" (Matthew 11:30).

Wow, very thought provoking considering I just finished a course on genetics and society. This may work itself into my take home exam answers. Thanks Pastor Kirk
Pastor Kirk you have had great timing with a number of your posts this fall. I have written several papers that have tied right into some of your blog posts. I just wrote an opinion paper the other week regarding sperm donation and surrogacy... not concerning homosexual couples (which is immorality at the fullest), but how infertile couples would rather spend thousands of dollars to have their own genetic child, when there are 8000 children in Ontario alone waiting to be adopted. The paper centered around how adoption is rarely considered as an option in discourse on invitro fertilization or abortion... People will use many medical advances to get rid of children they don't want or create the child they do want (sometimes very specifically) and yet won't consider adoption... which is very sad.
Hi Nathan and Jodi... Looks like you are involved in the study of some important things that require serious thought from a Christian perspective. Let me encourage you in your school work and always remember that the Scriptures are sufficient to guide us even in these difficult areas of endeavor.
Thanks for the link. Colson makes a compelling case against that sort of thing --- well, actually the mothers themselves make the case, and Colson describes it poignantly.
Thanks for your comments Milton. I took a look at your blog(s). Great work. I will add you to my list so I can keep in touch with what you are doing. Blessings!
